Ageing Population & Workforce Shortages—A Dual Challenge
Ireland’s population aged 65+ has grown by 13.8% since 2018, now making up over 15% of the total. This demographic shift is increasing demand for care while also straining the ageing healthcare workforce.

At the same time, many healthcare workers are nearing retirement. The sector’s churn rate is 10.1%, with private nursing homes and home care settings facing the highest turnover I. Projections suggest a 3.5–4% annual growth rate in HCA demand over the next 12 years.
